A very special group of Macquarie staff were celebrated last week for having completed 25 or 40 years of service at the University.

In paying tribute to the group’s commitment, Vice-Chancellor Professor S Bruce Dowton noted that today’s graduates are more likely to accrue 40 employers than 40 years with one employer.

“These staff have been mentors to this University, helping to guide, advise and shape it,” Professor Dowton said. “They are the stalwarts of ensuring that our institutional memory stays alive and that we hold true to the ideals Macquarie was founded on.”

The Vice-Chancellor added that the group was a reminder to all of us that an institution is its people.

“We are a wonderful campus, but transcending what we are as a physical place, is a community of people who are incredibly loyal, who are enthusiastic about being part of this University, and who care deeply not only about the history of this place, but also its purpose, its mission, its future.”
