Privacy guidelines when working from home

In view of recent advice that all staff (other than those considered “essential”) should not attend the campus and are to work from home, staff are reminded that the same principles and obligations of confidentiality and privacy apply at home, as they do at work.

Consideration should be given to your obligations under the Code of Conduct and to the remote working tools.

Staff should be mindful to:

  • Make sure devices and any paper documents are stored in a safe and secure location when not in use
  • Use work email accounts not personal accounts for all work-related emails that contain personal information
  • Appropriately manage any confidential information being worked on at home – think about whether you have taken sufficient steps to maintain privacy and confidentiality, for example:
    – Who has access to or visibility of your computer screen?
    – Where are you conducting confidential conversations?

If you are managing any confidential information and have any questions or concerns, please contact your Manager and advice can be sought from the University’s privacyofficer@mq.edu.au
