Did you know that 1 in 5 Australian children are developmentally behind in their language skills before they even start school?¹

Speech Pathology students from MQ Health Speech and Hearing Clinic, are delighted to be taking part in the annual Speech Pathology Library Talks campaign to help support children’s language and literacy development in the Macquarie University Library via Zoom.

The free Speech Pathology Library Talk will give a unique opportunity to learn more about how to help develop a child’s language and literacy and help to set them up for success in their early years.

Topics covered will include:

• choosing the right books and how the University Library can assist this
• ways parents and teachers can help to build language and literacy
• encouraging interactions
• how to support multi-lingual children through book reading
• what to do if a child is having difficulties with reading

The presentation will demonstrate practical book reading techniques to implement in the classroom or at home using one of the Association’s Book of the Year winning books in the 3 to 5 category.

We invite education students, parents and others interested in children’s language and literacy development, to attend.
