One of the common themes across staff feedback in recent years has been the impact of Macquarie’s systems and processes on our day-to-day work. Among the challenges staff face with these is the lack of standardisation across HR’s various systems.

To address this, a cross-functional team has been consulting with staff across the University and its entities since early 2020. The team is now in the advanced stages of designing and configuring our new HR system, Workday, ready for its launch early next year as part of the Digital Transformation work stream of our Operating Plan 2020-2024.

“Workday will deliver a simple and consistent HR experience that’s intuitive for our people,” says Nicole Gower, Vice-President, People and Services and Executive sponsor of the Workday implementation project. “It will also empower staff to manage both their day-to-day HR transactions and their career at Macquarie via accessible and user-friendly self-service capability.

“Additionally, the new system will streamline HR processes, reducing the double-entry and manual effort associated with the current paper-based forms. And for leaders and managers, Workday’s real-time insights and analytics will enable them to make data-driven workforce decisions and more easily manage their teams.

“We recognise that our people are key to the University’s success. We aim to provide the best experience for our staff and to nurture them to seize opportunities and achieve their greatest potential. Workday will support this aspiration and provide the tools we need to get there.”

A market leading, cloud-based system, Workday will replace HR Online for the University and its entities MQ Health, U@MQ, MGSM and AccessMQ in 2021, delivering benefits over two phases:

  • Phase 1: Enable effective and efficient HR operations (Q1 2021)
  • Phase 2: Enable strategic workforce planning and talent management (Q3 2021)
