Sexual health service at MQ Health General Practice

MQ Health is pleased to inform staff of the sexual health service at MQ Health General Practice.

A confidential and non-judgemental sexual health service is available to Macquarie University students, staff, their families, and the greater community. All our GPs are appropriately qualified to discuss and help you with your concerns or requirements.  In addition, the clinic is fortunate to have Emma Xiang, RN, embedded in the general practice, with additional training to assist you with questions regarding sexual health.

Services that we provide – in both English and Mandarin Chinese – include:

  • Sexual health screening and education
  • Prevention, treatment and management of sexually transmitted infections (STIs)
  • Routine cervical screening test (CST)
  • Contraception advice
  • Implanon and IUD insertion and removal
  • HPV 9v (human papillomavirus) immunisation
  • Pre-pregnancy, planned and unplanned pregnancy advice

In particular, we would welcome international students to utilise this service.  For various reasons they are at higher risk – such as difficulty navigating the Australian healthcare system, little or no sexual health literacy and education, and lack of social support networks.

Some health advice to consider:

  • All STIs can cause disease and be transferable without producing symptoms
  • Safe sex such as condoms may prevent its transmission
  • Most STIs can be easily treated with medication if caught early, but can causes serious issues if not detected and treated.
