Following Nicole Gower’s move to the position of Vice-President, People and Services to take on an expanded portfolio, Nick Crowley has been appointed as Director, Human Resources.

Nick has been a senior HR leader in higher education for the past 25 years. With a strong background in employee relations, in his most recent role as Macquarie’s Deputy Director, Human Resources he has expanded his remit to lead other specialist HR functions such as Payroll and Superannuation, HR Technology and Business Improvement.

He has also played an important leadership role across the University, representing HR on the Patyegarang Indigenous Strategic Committee, leading enterprise bargaining negotiations for the University and its controlled entities, and serving as a non-Executive Director on Access MQ and U@MQ (Campus Life).

“I’m looking forward to being involved in a broader range of University matters in my new role, during what is a challenging time for Macquarie,” says Nick. “My own challenge will be to ensure that HR continues to support the Macquarie community as it develops, adapts and responds to this period of change, recognising that it’s the contributions of people that make a successful university.

“HR has an obligation to serve and support Macquarie in its mission to enlighten, educate and develop knowledge for the benefit of society. We intend to do this by continuing to understand our community and seeking to listen, learn, engage and debate, with the aim of making a positive contribution to all aspects of University life.”

Nick will continue to report to Nicole and will be responsible for the operations and strategy of the HR department, all functional reporting lines, and carrying the delegations of the Director, Human Resources under the Enterprise Bargaining Agreement, relevant HR policies and the University’s Register of Delegations.
