Our culture: Preventing bullying, discrimination and harassment module

All staff have been enrolled in a new e-learning module on preventing bullying, discrimination and harassment, and should complete it by Friday 29 November.

Staff who have difficulties accessing the module via the original email invite can access it here: https://mq.elmotalent.com.au/learning/view-course/75?_l=1

“We all play a part in developing a positive and supportive workplace culture says Vice-Chancellor, Professor S Bruce Dowton, who has endorsed the program. “If you have been affected, or you have witnessed unacceptable behaviours against others, we have clear processes in place for prevention, response and support and we encourage you to access these.”

Why is this module mandatory?

At Macquarie, we do not tolerate acts of bullying, discrimination or harassment of any kind. As an institution that values diversity, inclusion and collaboration, we are committed to preventing these behaviours and fostering a culture of safety and respect for all members of our community. Our policies and codes clearly articulate our expectations around acceptable and unacceptable behaviours, and the consequences for those who fail to uphold these expectations.

This training helps staff know their rights and responsibilities as employees, challenge attitudes and practices that may lead to harmful conduct, and respond to incidents of inappropriate behaviour.

It’s important that as a staff community we support open communication where calling out unacceptable behaviours, and speaking up against bullying, discrimination and harassment is encouraged.

What is included in the module?

This module includes:

  • ways you can prevent bullying, discrimination and harassment
  • your legal obligations in relation to bullying, discrimination and harassment
  • advice on what you can do if you see or experience any of these behaviours
  • key definitions and examples of bullying, discrimination and harassment
  • support and report channels

The module will need to be completed every two years. This training has been included in the onboarding program for new staff.

  1. I totally agree with this Module and I believe our work environment should be free from bullying, harassment or discrimination. I also acknowledge that I have a duty to report any type of bullying, harassment or discrimination.

  2. Hello there. Your link to “Our culture: Preventing bullying, discrimination & harassment” does not work. Would you check it please?

  3. Why aren’t the contractors working in the offices required to complete this extremely important training? In my opinion, it’s an unacceptable situation where only some staff members (i.e. MQ employees) in an office have completed the training while others (i.e. contractors sitting next to MQ employees) haven’t and aren’t required to complete the training.

  4. I am in full support of this Module and understand that I have a role to play in not being a perpetrator of bullying, harassment or discrimination. I also acknowledge that I have a responsibility to report any form of bullying, harassment or discrimination. As an Indigenous staff member and entrusted with the delivery of Cultural Safety Training to MQU staff I appreacite that we work towards creating a safe and inclusive campus for all people.

    1. HI Veronica, HR have advised that all staff, at all levels (including the Executive Group), have been enrolled and are required to complete the module.
