Macquarie’s close-down period for 2019

Macquarie’s Vice-President, Human Resources Nicole Gower advises staff on this year’s close-down period.

Each year, the University closes for the end of year holiday period.  This year, this occurs from COB Tuesday 24 December 2019 to Thursday 2 January 2020.

In addition to gazetted public holidays, the University provides employees with three additional concessional days off.  A table of the public holidays and concessional days for this year is provided below:

Tuesday 24 December 2019 Normal working day – University closes at 5pm
Wednesday 25 December 2019 Public holiday (Christmas Day)
Thursday 26 December 2019 Public holiday (Boxing Day)
Friday 27 December 2019 University concessional day
Monday 30 December 2019 University concessional day
Tuesday 31 December 2019 University concessional day
Wednesday 1 January 2020 Public holiday (New Years’ Day)
Thursday 2 January 2020 University re-opens – normal working day

Staff wishing to take annual leave, or other leave, before or after the close down period should discuss their plans with their manager.

Where a staff member is required to work over the close-down period they should discuss alternative arrangements, which might include alternative days or payment for work, with their manager.

Questions about the close-down period should be directed to your Human Resources contact.
