20 smiling Macquarie faces were among more than 1200 international students who were officially welcomed to Sydney by the Lord Mayor Clover Moore on 11 April.

Among those receiving a personal welcome from Councillor Moore was Jennifer Anacio (main picture, left) who is herself a Councillor in her hometown in the Philippines. Jennifer is completing a Master of Laws at Macquarie through the Australian Government’s Australia Awards scholarship program and is also receiving additional support from Macquarie’s disability services team.

On 5 April, the Widening Participation team welcomed 97 young students from eight partner high schools to campus for the LEAP UP refugee mentoring program’s ‘University Experience Day’. The day sees students in the program come on to campus to enjoy a fun and engaging day of activities, inspiring and encouraging them in their pursuit of tertiary education.

Earlier this month our City Campus played host to the 10th annual Financial Markets and Corporate Governance Conference. Co-chaired by Department of Applied Finance Professors Tom Smith and Jing Shi, the theme for this year’s conference was ‘Capital Markets, Sustainability and Disruptive Technologies’. Thought-provoking keynotes were delivered by Professor Smith as well as Professor Ellie Chapple from QUT, Professor Frank Figge from KEDGE Business School and Professor Kathy Walsh from UTS (pictured), who spoke on the internationalisation of China.
