Bus timetable screens in Campus Common

Macquarie is committed to supporting public transport and increasing the share of trips to and from campus by public transport. Our North Ryde campus is served by 12 public bus routes transporting staff, students and visitors between our campus and the Northern Beaches, North Shore, north western Sydney, the Parramatta area and Sydney’s CBD.

New screens have recently been installed in the Campus Common to help staff and students plan their trips on public buses. Similar to airport departure and arrival screens, the screens display:

  • Buses departing University Avenue stops
  • Destination suburb
  • If a service is running on time, delayed or cancelled.

Macquarie is the first university to provide public bus service details via screens on campus, with Transport for NSW sharing live data for the campus screens  via an open data application..

If the Campus Common screens are well received, consideration will be given to place more in areas with high foot traffic on campus.

  1. Good idea. There has been too much focus recently on the parking! Macquarie needs to embrace it’s responsibilities to promote environmentally friendly modes of transportation.
I’m a little surprised that the screens will only mention buses, and not trains though.

    1. Hi MQ staff, thanks for the comment and we certainly agree that public transport is a very good, viable option for staff, students and visitors to Macquarie University. The reason the screens do not mention trains is because they are promoted as “no need for timetables, just turn up and go” by Transport for NSW and Sydney Northwest Metro. With the promise of a train every 4-5 minutes in the peak, people should have the flexibility to use these services without a timetable. This can be revisited once the new Metro trains are up and running from 26 May.

  2. Hi there,

    This is great!

If we have screens in our department foyers, is there a way we can put this up also? If so, can you please advise how we can arrange this?

    Thanks,
    Mel Pallesen
