Earlier this year the University outlined changes to how campus buildings are referred to in correspondence, online and in campus maps using the new naming system.

Although reflected across campus in street and building signage, many of Macquarie University website’s public, staff and student portal pages still show a lot of old system names floating around. Also, many staff will, out of habit and familiarity, give directions to buildings by their original names, which can result in a localised language barrier.

Perhaps it’s time to fully transition to the new naming system before the end of 2018? New staff and students won’t know what E7A is and may fail to attend a meeting at C3C. If you’re in the mood for some spring cleaning, please update any old information representing your department or faculty in the remaining weeks before the Christmas break. Here’s a few areas to look at:

  • Web pages – including side menus. Consult your team’s Squiz publisher or log a OneHelp ticket detailing the changes identified.
  • Email signatures – delete old building names, including those in brackets.
  • Internal documents and stationery – take the time to update headers and footers on stationery with letterhead that uses the old names
  • Brochures and marketing materials – remove from circulation and stop using or arrange replacements with correct address information.

  1. The campus maps have not been updated. They still show red triangles instead of the new building names. People shouldn’t need to guess the building names, they should just be labelled. The new Biosciences building is missing from the maps. So are the Waterloo road buildings, and the new road between the 4RPD and 3IR buildings.

    1. Dear Still Lost, thanks for your observations and for using the newer terminology! Campus maps are being updated and will be released on our website in the maps section in the coming weeks. There is constant change on Campus and we try to keep up with publishing the latest maps to match.
