Tips to manage transport disruption

The real deal
Now that NSW October school holidays are over, you may have experienced an increase in road traffic during your commute to work and from work. Whatever your experience has been since the Epping to Chatswood rail line closed on 30 September, be prepared to re-plan your journey to accommodate changed conditions including the lower speed limits in school zones.

Peak early – or late
If it works for you, try to travel outside the peak. Consider grocery shopping after work to delay travel home or visiting the gym before or after work. Adjustment of work hours to skip travel during the peak would need to be approved by a manager, for more information visit: https://staff.mq.edu.au/work/travel/station-upgrade
– Morning peak between 8:00am and 9:30am
– Afternoon peak between 5:00pm and 6:00pm

Do take into account that Station Link service frequency drops outside the AM and PM peak hours. Check your preferred bus route here: https://transportnsw.info/station-link-service-adjustments-30-sep/station-link

app

There’s an app for that. It’s advisable to trip plan every journey to and from Macquarie University, especially if travelling at different times.

Sharing is caring
It’s good to share your transport tips, tricks and experiences with colleagues who can learn what is working and what to avoid.  Here’s one to remember:

If you’re travelling to Macquarie Park or Macquarie University Stations, use SL4 from St Leonards Station that runs every few minutes in the morning and afternoon peak.

  1. It’s worth pointing out that for some strange reason, NSW Trip Planner doesn’t seem to register a large number of Station Link services. It often recommends that I catch a regular bus instead, even though a Station Link bus would be a faster trip. I’ve had more luck just showing up at a SL bus stop and mostly ignoring what Trip Planner suggests.
