PAYG parking for students goes live

parking_web

Yesterday Macquarie University launched a new era of digital, self-managed parking for students and the general public by activating the parking system provided by CellOpark.

Students have already been taking up the vPermit offer however most have waited for the pay-as-you-go (PAYG) option that is available now.

Should staff need to advise students about how to use the new system, we’ve listed a few tips to help point them in the right direction. These tips will also be communicated to students via University channels supported by flyers and posters.

1. CellOpark is for the pay-as-you-go (PAYG) option (hourly rate) where students register in one of these ways:
a. Online: https://www.cellopark.com.au/Site/
b. Download: CellOpark app via App Store or Google Play
c. Scan: QR code on campus parking signage
d. Telephone: 02 8599 9747

2. vPermit allows students to purchase a virtual permit via a different website: https://vpermit.com.au/mq/Account/Register

3. The role of the Cashier’s office
With regard to administering and managing student parking, the role of the Cashier’s office will reduce as a result of the new system and staff won’t be handling PAYG or vPermit registrations or queries about how to register.
The Cashier can help with the following only, with regard to student parking going forward:
– Purchase of a Reserved Display Permit

  1. So, no comment about Cellopark helping itself to a fee of $1.99 per month from your account, and insisting you somehow activated the premium service (which we haven’t, and didn’t), then refusing to refund that money, and Macquarie Uni also refusing to help? Essentially, Cellopark charges you $1.99 per month, without telling you, for using their app, and that is for each car you have registered. Have two cars? Thats $3.98 per month, thanks. You can’t park at Macquarie without the Cellopark app, making this whole affair a very dubious business practice that is against Fair Trading ethics. How much money are you also making from this, Macquarie?

    1. Hi Fiona, if you would like this investigated further please email the parking team and they will look into it for you with Cellopark. The terms of engagement with Cellopark can be found here: https://www.cellopark.com.au/Site/terms/ and clearly state that “You can opt-in or out of the premium services at any time from the profile page of your online account (from any internet connected device) or by calling or emailing our customer service.” If you have been disallowed to opt out then please advise in your email to the parking team on parking@mq.edu.au.

  2. I am reading a lot of negative reviews of the cellopark system that is being used by the university and frankly am not willing to download it based on those reviews which indicates it does not work and results in fines.
Are there other options available that don’t cost $40 a day and work?

  3. Do staff members have access to CellOpark and the cheap rates for parking? There are times when we need to drive a car in, just for a few hours or a day.

    1. Hi Susan, hourly staff rates and are not yet available on the app system yet. Staff will continue to use display permits at a reduced rate of $40 per month. After end April 2019 staff will have the option to use the pay-as-you-go system as well. Casual visitor rates apply to staff without a permit and they are $10 for the first hour, $5 thereafter and $40 for the day. If you park a few days a month they the permit is a good option.

      Kind regards,
