Gone Phishing! Macquarie’s new protection against email spam

As part of the Macquarie Cyber Security Strategy and to increase the protection from spam and phishing emails, an additional layer of protection (Mimecast), is being implemented to all addresses ending in @mq.edu.au.

Phishing emails in particular can lead to compromised accounts which places the University’s systems and information at risk.

The new protection includes:

  • sophisticated protection from spam, virus and phishing emails
  • reporting and notification of phishing campaigns targeting the University
  • ability to identify accounts compromised by phishing emails so that passwords can be reset
  • built-in phishing awareness facility to help staff more easily identify phishing

The implementation of Mimecast is scheduled for Saturday 21 April.

If you suspect you’ve been the target of a phishing email, please forward it directly to onehelp@mq.edu.au

  1. mimecast is blackballing legitimate emails to me, from addresses that I’ve been communicating with for years.
It is even threatening to blackball me to others outside of Macquarie. How do we control this beast?
