As you’re aware, a lot is changing around the University as part of the Campus Development Plan. We told you about the food and beverage precinct – Campus Common – opening in Session 2, and now we’re excited to announce a new suite of student spaces on campus.
In preparation for works on the current Campus Hub building, the University is opening new student and event spots on Level 3 in C7A in October. The new spaces will include groups and services currently in the Hub as well as new additions:
- New Student HQ
- New Student Group Collaboration Zone with bookable spaces
- New home for Queer Space and Women’s Room
- Five dedicated event spaces with improved AV facilities
- Locker relocation
In addition, the Campus Life Administration Office and Student Equity and Diversity Office are moving to Level 4 in the building.
This is all part of the works that will commence later this year on the Hub. As part of the normal construction process, we have recently filed a Development Application with the City of Ryde Council to remove C10A/C9A to make room for an innovative new teaching and learning building, as well as the first two of five student housing buildings (approximately 300 beds), to create a campus which is better suited for the next 50 years of our growth. We’ll continue to share details as things progress in the coming months.
From the previous article on the Campus Common I understood that the hub (C10A) will be demolished later this year (from approx Sept). The new (temporary) location of the food vendors and bar will be the Campus Common outside the library while the new hub is being built.
But now a DA application has been lodged to “remove C10A/C9A to make room for an innovative new teaching and learning building, as well as the first two of five student housing buildings”. So there won’t be a new hub building? Or it will be built but then removed? Very confusing…
Hi Belinda, thanks for your comment. There will be food and beverage offerings available in the new Central Courtyard Precinct. More details to come.
could a map be included in these sort of announcements please? thx
Thanks for your comment. Yes, we will aim to include maps in future posts. In the meantime, you can always view the Campus Map online here: http://www.mq.edu.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0016/108142/Campus-Map.pdf
