Start your day in a healthy way: Ride2Uni Day turns 10

It’s one of the few modes of transport that ticks all the ‘feel good’ boxes: it’s sustainable, it’s fun and it burns fat instead of fuel. It’s cycling!

Whether you’re an avid cyclist or a bike beginner who’s looking to fit some exercise into your day, Wednesday 12 October is your chance to start your day in a healthy way by participating in the University’s annual Ride2Uni Day event.

This is the tenth year that the University has supported the national Ride2Work Day initiative and Nathan Stevens of Ride2Work says Macquarie is consistently one of state’s most enthusiastic participants.

“Macquarie University is one of the top five sites in New South Wales for riding on the day of the event,” he notes.

Did you know?

  • Cycling is a low-impact activity that is easier on the joints than walking.
  • Cycling burns around 105 kilojoules per kilometre.
  • It takes 100 times more energy to build a car than to build a bicycle.

As usual, participating Macquarie staff and students will be rewarded for their pedal-pushing with a free delicious breakfast. The Department of Chiropractic will also be on hand at the finish line to offer stretch sessions, massages and consultations.

Register now to participate in Ride2UniDay and enjoy a free breakfast. You can also view suggested cycle routes to the campus or connect with other people riding on the day.

  1. Can’t wait to start cycling into campus again and be part of this event! I was there at the first one and so glad this is becoming a tradition at MQ – good on the Sustainability team for making this happen!!!

  2. It is wonderful that Macquarie University supports cycling in this way, but it makes me wonder why there is so little cycling infrastructure around campus. Even the newly developed University Avenue does not have a dedicated cycle lane….
