Should we fear robot uprisings? Luan Heimlich weighs in

“I think it’s just a fear of the unknown, a fear of what could be, and I think as long as we realise that the jobs that are going to be created by having robotics and more robotics in industries, are going to be more meaningful, more impactful and make people’s lives better. It’s a good thing.”

This week on the Pioneering Minds podcast we speak to Luan Heimlich, Director of FIRST® Australia, about the future of robotics and the importance of the FIRST robotics program in inspiring a young generation of technologically-minded creators. Listen and subscribe:

  1. Hi Luan,
Terrific podcast! I’m fascinated by your FIRST Australia program at MQ where students learn to design and create their own technology.

I’m a practice-based PhD candidate investigating how science fiction has interrogated and dramatised Artificial Intelligence, the Posthuman and the Anthropocene through a feminist lens (especially Donna Haraway’s Cyborg Manifesto). My research outcomes include a thesis and a film that addresses these issues (Dept Media Music Communication and Cultural Studies).

I’d love to talk to you about your program (and your use of Leggo). Please let my know if you have time.

    Thanks for a great podcast
