It’s been a busy month for Macquarie staff in the media. The University’s news platform The Lighthouse continues to attract national attention, with many of our articles amplified in co-publishing deals with media outlets in May. Here are just a few of our media highlights for the month.
Professor Dominic Rowe’s ground-breaking work in Motor Neurone Disease was highlighted in Fairfax’s Good Weekend magazine’s cover story on Saturday 26 May.
Professor Enrico Coiera, also of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, spoke to The Australian about how the Medical Research Future Fund’s $240 million funding for Frontier Science on Artificial Intelligence is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to transform health care.

Department of Education Studies and Professor Philip Benson of the Department of Linguistics published an article in The Conversation about Strathfield Council’s proposal to force shops to display English signage. The story was picked up by ABC Radio and online.
Alexandra Bhatti, Associate Lecturer in the Department of Health Systems and Populations, wrote about jet lag in Escape, which is published in Sunday papers across Australia and online.
There was broad print, radio and tv media coverage around Professor Anand Deva’s warning that the trend towards discount breast implants is leading to a surge in associated breast cancer cases.
The Sydney Morning Herald published an opinion piece by Zara Bending and Shirleen Daft, of the Macquarie Law School, on image-based abuse.
