Macquarie University is celebrating Social Sciences Week 2022 from Monday 5 September to Friday 9 September with several student workshops and public discussions open to all staff.
Social Sciences Week is a week-long series of events held across Australia offering insight into the impact of the social sciences on our lives. Locally, it is a chance to acknowledge the extraordinary and diverse research done by social scientists at Macquarie, as well as an opportunity for students and others to consider what the Social Sciences can do for them, as careers, as consultants, and as powerful ways to learn more about how our societies function.
Hosted by the School of Social Sciences in the Faculty of Arts, all staff are encouraged to join the two important public discussions.

Food, Poverty and the Cost of Living

Floods, COVID and war have seen the cost of food jump significantly. Unlike other basics – such as healthcare or education – we have no reliable mechanism to ensure that everyone can get enough to eat. Four experts on food, price and poverty discuss how the food system works, how it might work differently and how we can ensure that everyone has the income they need to ensure a nutritious diet.
