Your questions answered: 2021 Research Weather Report

Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research) Professor Sakkie Pretorius answers questions asked by staff in our wrap of the 2021 Research Weather Report

Thank you for raising the above questions; they provide an important example of the ongoing interplay between developing a longer term strategic and aspirational framework and necessary adjustments in the face of a dynamic and challenging internal and external landscape.

There already has been significant change, both within and beyond Macquarie, since Research Strategy 2025 was finalised.  We recognise that the academic change process has altered Macquarie’s academic staffing profile.

At the same time, the ARC is in the process of consulting on, and revising, its definition and rating scale for “world standard” for use in the next ERA assessment.  Our processes and aspirations will need to flex to these circumstances but success for us in ERA 2023 will continue to be appropriate recognition of Macquarie’s research strengths and researchers across all of our disciplines.

The University is continuously required to adapt to changing circumstances and this will be no different. Research Strategy 2025 will continue, however, to provide the overarching strategic direction for research excellence and growth across the University.
