A webinar for the ladies (and the men who love them)

It’s something that all women go through, yet the word ‘menopause’ remains a highly stigmatised and largely misunderstood subject.

Dr Heather Knox, General Practitioner in the MQ Health General Practice and Lecturer in the Faculty of Medicine, Health and Human Sciences, wants to change that, with a free staff webinar on Wednesday 30 June titled Menopause – it’s not a disease. Maintaining health and well-being from mid-life to retirement.

With her particular interest in women’s health, Dr Knox has guided many female patients through this important life stage. She says misconceptions and misinformation around menopause can make it difficult for women to get the right support.

“This webinar is all about providing accurate information around what’s normal, the symptoms that can occur with perimenopause and menopause, and what can be done about it,” says Dr Knox. “I’ll talk about  medication – both hormonal and non-hormonal – as well as non- pharmacological management.”

“There’ll also be a focus on the preventative health measures that are important to discuss at this time to promote wellness into the future, including cardiovascular health,  bone health and cancer screening.”

And don’t think this webinar is just for the ladies.

“Partners, children and other family members also benefit from knowing more about the experience of menopause. I’d absolutely encourage them to attend, along with any younger women who are interested in their future reproductive health.”
