Dr Ross McLennan commences today, 20 October, as the University’s new Executive Director of Research Services.

Originally hailing from the UK (‘forged in Liverpool and Glasgow’), Ross joins Macquarie from Griffith University where he was the Director of the Office for Research. His previous positions include Director of Research and Innovation Services at the University of South Australia and CEO of Scannexus – a European Centre of Excellence based in The Netherlands.

Ross is the current President of the Australasian Research Management Society (ARMS), representing over 3500 members from universities, independent research institutions, government and health and research organisations from across the region.

With considerable experience in systems and process improvement, including developing new models of effective service delivery, Ross says he is ready to help propel Macquarie towards its discovery goals.

“It is incredibly exciting to be joining such a strong team,” Ross says. “I’m looking forward to getting to know the research community and contributing to the development of innovative and effective approaches to research services that will support the Operating Plan’s Focused investment in research priority.’

An important initial focus of Ross’s role will be helping the research community navigate the uncertainty and challenges that have been created by COVID-19.

“Macquarie has a well-deserved reputation for excellence in research and a strong track record across a range of disciplines,” Ross says. “I want to ensure that we emerge from COVID-19 well-placed to continue to deliver these impactful research outcomes.”
