Sarah Treacy is a proud Kija woman originally from Broome, Western Australia.
After initially moving over to Sydney for boarding school, Sarah decided to continue her tertiary education here at Macquarie University. She has completed a Bachelor of Arts with a Bachelor of Education (Primary), majoring in Indigenous Studies, and cannot wait to get into the classroom to share her passion and enthusiasm for education with others.
(1) In a nutshell, my job is to…
Provide administrative assistance to the Walanga Muru team, in the Office of the Pro Vice-Chancellor, Indigenous Strategy.
(2) The thing I find most rewarding in my role is…
I get to work in an environment that promotes education and culture – two aspects of my own life that I am passionate about as a pre-service teacher and a proud Kija woman.
(3) This year I want to…
Finally finish my teaching degree!
(4) The bravest thing I’ve done is…
Agreed to represent the Australian Indigenous Education Foundation on live television. Although it was an amazing experience, I was so nervous and am not cut out for journalism.
(5) A place that’s special to me is…
My beautiful hometown Broome – a place where the red dirt meets the blue sea. It’s extremely important for me to get home, reconnect and rejuvenate. I go a little crazy if I don’t.
(6) My mother/father always told me…
To stand for something or you’ll fall for anything.
(7) My guilty pleasure is…
Definitely cheese and wine and probably a bit of reality TV.
(8) My hidden talent is…
I love dancing but unfortunately don’t get a chance to do it as much as I use to.
(9) Something I’ve never done but wanted to try is…
I’m way too scared to do it now but one day I’d love to skydive.
(10) A moment I’ll always remember is…
December 2018… I returned home for the holidays, witnessed the birth of my beautiful Goddaughter and spent every day reconnecting to country and spending time with family.
TOOOO DEADLY – Great leader on campus and in the community. Love your Murama shirt 🙂
