A new Times Higher Education report that measures the impact of global universities against the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals has seen Macquarie ranked 44th in the world for reduced inequalities.
The report (which also saw Macquarie ranked #17 in the world for climate action and #18 in the world for gender equality) assessed participating universities on measures including research on social inequalities, policies on discrimination and commitment to recruiting staff and students from under-represented groups.
Much of Macquarie’s success in reducing inequalities can be attributed to the work being done within the Widening Participation Strategic Framework 2018-2023, which aims to increase the enrolment, retention and success of students from equity groups including students from low SES backgrounds, refugees and asylum seekers, students from remote and regional areas, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and women in non-traditional areas of study in higher education.
