Central Courtyard project – Gymnasium Road changed pedestrian access

As advised earlier this month, preliminary works have started on the Central Courtyard redevelopment, an exciting and significant construction project for the University that will continue until late 2020.

As the main construction site access point, Gymnasium Road will be heavily used by trucks and other vehicles associated with the Central Courtyard project. To ensure pedestrian safety there are several measures being implemented.

Fencing along Gymnasium Road

Commencing at the end of April, appointed contractor FDC will install fencing to both sides Gymnasium Road as per the map section (above). Once the fencing works are complete (end of May), the main points for staff, students and visitors to understand are as follows:

  • All pedestrian access to the Sport and Aquatic Centre will be via the south side of Gymnasium Road, as re-directed around/behind the safety fencing.
  • Staff can still use the North 3 Carpark – details below.
  • Pedestrians and drivers can still access West 5 and 6 Carparks and other parts of the University.
  • Passenger drop-off parking on Gymnasium Road (outside the Sport and Aquatic Centre) will be relocated to the West 5 carpark, behind the pool.
  • Two disabled car spaces adjacent the Sport and Aquatic Centre will be relocated to the West 5 Carpark, behind the pool.

North 3 Carpark

From 1 May 2019, the North 3 carpark will become a staff-only parking zone for the duration of the construction period. Staff with an applicable vPermit (available to pre-purchase from 23 April via www.mq.edu.au/parking) can have access to this carpark added to their MQ OneID card which will be used to open the new boom gate at the North 3 carpark. For staff queries about parking in North 3, please email parking@mq.edu.au.
