Uncertainty contributes to workplace stress and it’s important that we’re equipped to deal with the stress that uncertain environments can bring.

Stress in uncertain environments is one of two important topics being covered at tomorrow’s lunch and learn sessions – part of the University’s ongoing ‘A better you at MQ’ wellbeing program.

Clinical Psychologist Lesley Smith, of the University’s Centre for Emotional Health, will be hosting the 1pm session on stress. You’ll learn:

  • How uncertainty contributes to workplace stress
  • Common mistakes to avoid when dealing with uncertainty
  • Practical tips for coping with uncertainty

Lesley says that is stress is becoming a disruptive factor in your life, it’s important to do something about it early on.

“One of the most common mistakes people make is not asking for help soon enough,” she says. “By understanding the cause of our stress, we’re in a much better position to make positive changes.”

The 11.30am session will be focused on building better sleep habits, with Dr Lydia Makarie Rofail, Head of the Sleep Disorders Unit at Macquarie University Hospital, taking you through:

  • The function of sleep
  • What is a normal sleep pattern
  • Factors affecting sleep efficiency
  • How to achieve a healthy sleep pattern
  • Recognising and getting help for sleep disorders
