100 Treasures, 100 Emotions: The Macquarie University History Museum
Professor Martin Bommas, Museum Director, Faculty of Arts
The Macquarie University History Museum is home to a vast collection of historical artefacts. This book, edited by Professor Martin Bommas, Director of the Macquarie University History Museum, is a thought-provoking visual feast presenting 100 items from the museum’s extensive 18,000-piece collection, with images from award-winning photographer Effy Alexakis. The objects include fragments of an ancient Egyptian Book of the Dead, a WWI-era Turkish Star Medal and more.
“Fifty-three Macquarie University scholars contributed to this book and developed a radical new view on how human beings interact with history, which is a testimony to the campus-wide aim of fresh and original research and the love for the University’s History Museum,” says Professor Bommas.
“It is paramount for a university to gain international recognition in a world where resilient societies learn about other cultures in meaningful ways. I am delighted to see that Australia’s voice offers a perspective other parts of the world are grateful to listen to.”
