Introducing the Vice-Chancellor’s Excellence Awards

Macquarie is excited to announce the inaugural Vice-Chancellor’s Excellence Awards for Learning and Teaching and Professional Staff, taking place on 21 November 2022.

This year the combined ceremony will mark the first time our teaching staff and professional staff join to celebrate the accomplishments of our esteemed colleagues.

“I have been very impressed with the high quality of the nominations and the amazing work being done by professional staff across the University. I am looking forward to celebrating the achievements of all our nominees at the event on 21 November, and the Vice-Chancellor announcing this year’s award recipients,” says David Ward, Chief People Officer, Human Resources.

Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic, Professor Rorden Wilkinson is also delighted to celebrate these awards after recently starting at the University. “These awards are a fantastic opportunity to recognise the excellent work and achievements of our staff. I am looking forward to congratulating the finalists and winners at the Awards ceremony.”

There are twelve different categories of the awards that celebrate the excellence of our teaching and professional staff who go above and beyond.


Categories

Professional Staff

 

Leadership Excellence

Leadership Excellence acknowledges staff who are creating a culture of service and engagement by demonstrating positive leadership behaviours, such as honesty, integrity, trust, appreciation of others and empowerment; to achieve the University’s strategic objectives and creating a high-performing team environment in which diversity of people feel they belong, are valued and respected.


Innovation and Process Improvement

Innovation and Process Improvement recognises staff who start and implement innovation and process improvement. For example, they are implementing creative and impactful ways to achieve the University’s strategic objectives. They are developing alternative approaches, processes or systems which improve operations and service delivery and are continuously looking for ways to improve, streamline or simplify complex processes and procedures.


Outstanding Service

Outstanding Service is awarded to staff who are delivering outstanding service to clients and stakeholders. They are taking accountability and resolving challenging client issues or overcoming barriers to effective service. Establishing ways to create more positive and engaging experiences for clients and inspiring, motivating and leading others to improve service delivery.


Collaboration, Connection and Belonging

Collaboration, Connection and Belonging goes to staff who are building connections and actively collaborating with others within and/or outside the University. They are breaking down silos and developing deep relationships outside their team, office, faculty or the University in service of the University’s strategic objectives. They proactively connect and actively collaborate with other staff to resolve a shared problem or achieve a shared goal.


Diversity and Inclusion

Diversity and Inclusion recognises staff who value individual differences and actively promote and advance the inclusion and belonging of others. They promote respectful behaviour among staff or student groups, develop networks which share experiences, support each other and act as mentors and role models to others, breaking down barriers and stereotypes through outreach, opportunity, or advocacy.


Agility – for pandemic response

Agility – for pandemic response recognises the exceptional, innovative and unique efforts of individuals and/or teams to overcome the challenges our communities, stakeholders, staff and students have faced since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020. This extraordinary effort has enabled the University to continue to carry out its mission of teaching, research, service, and engagement, through this most challenging time.

This award acknowledges staff that are connecting with community and stakeholders to understand their changing needs and challenges, and responding accordingly. They have pivoted quickly and have developed a new way of working to support and service our staff, students, and stakeholders throughout the pandemic, demonstrating innovation and resilience to successfully carry out impactful changes during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Learning and Teaching

 

Teaching excellence

The Vice-Chancellor’s Award for Teaching Excellence recognises staff for their excellence in teaching and support of learning and the impact they have on motivating and inspiring students to learn.


Education leader

The Vice-Chancellor’s Educational Leader Award recognises staff educational leaders and how their leadership has influenced and enhanced learning and teaching and/or student experience.


Early career

The Vice-Chancellor’s Learning and Teaching Early Career Award recognises staff, with less than five years of teaching experience, for their quality teaching.


Sessional staff

The Vice-Chancellor’s Learning and Teaching Sessional Staff Award recognises sessional/casual staff for their commitment to student learning and effective teaching approaches.


Learning Innovation

The Vice-Chancellor’s Award for Learning Innovation recognises staff for their development and implementation of innovations to improve learning, teaching or assessment to enable, motivate, support and inspire students to learn.


Student-nominated

The Vice-Chancellor’s Learning and Teaching Student-Nominated Award recognises teachers who have been nominated by students as excellent teachers who made a difference in their learning.
