Indigenous Science Experience Workshops (online)

The event will include two evening webinars and two online weaving workshops:

    • Harnessing Knowledge of the Land and the Sea: Monday 15 August, 7pm – 8pm
    • Indigenous History and Artefacts: Thursday 18 August, 7pm – 8pm
    • Weaving Workshops: Sunday 21 August, 10am – 12pm and 1pm – 3pm

These sessions are free but tickets are limited, please also note that they are live online events ONLY; they will not be distributed as recordings.

Indigenous Science Experience at Redfern

  • Saturday August 20, 10 am – 3 pm
  • Redfern Community Centre, 29-53 Hugo St, Redfern
  • Bookings are not required.

Come along to get hands-on with a diverse range of interactive science activities accessible to all ages. Activities will include: Yarning with Elders on bush foods and medicines, Indigenous astronomy, maths puzzles, making Aboriginal tools, physics and chemistry activities, and much more! You will also meet Indigenous Elders and student leaders from the National Indigenous Science Education Program who will be assisting in demonstrating the activities.
The event will begin with a traditional smoking ceremony and official welcome at 10am. There will also be the opportunity to purchase food and Aboriginal arts and crafts.
Indigenous student leaders from northern NSW and the Riverina will be on-hand to guide participants through the science demonstrations. These students are trained through NISEP so as to give them the confidence to be STEM leaders of the future. Check out this video of the 2019 event.
