Art Gallery opens exciting new exhibition and welcomes back visitors

The Macquarie University Art Gallery was buzzing on Wednesday 9 March with the opening of Luminosity, an exhibition presenting the work of leading Australian artist, Salvatore Zofrea.

This was the first opening event the Gallery has held since 2020. It was officially opened by veteran Australian TV ad radio journalist, Caroline Jones and was attended by a number of notable guests, including former Premier of NSW, Gladys Berejiklian. Salvatore has painted Gladys’ portrait several times for the Archibald Prize, with one such portrait included in the exhibition.

Luminosity is open for public viewing between 10am and 5pm, Monday to Friday and will be on display until 25 May and all staff are warmly invited to come and view the exhibition during this time.

The Art Gallery is excited to welcome staff back to the space, and has a number of exciting upcoming events including a guided tour of the gallery and a number of ‘In Conversation’ events with Salvatore Zofrea. Visit the Art Gallery events webpage for more details, and email Rhonda Davis directly to book your place at one of these events.

Loud and Proud at MUSAC

To coincide with the International Day of Transgender Visibility on Thursday 31 March, the MUSAC Health Club held a ‘Loud and Proud’ Zumba event, organised by Group Fitness Coordinator, Julia Powl, and Clinical Workforce Officer at MUH, Alicia Speer.

The class was booked to capacity and was originally scheduled as a 90-minute event, but due to the great energy and dedication our team of five teaching instructors (Anna Biddiscombe, Phillip Chan, Neda Buckland, Jeison Ceullar Rodriguez and Cara Everson) kept the event running without stopping for a full two hours! Follow MUSAC on Facebook for details of more events coming up during Pride Month in June.

Zumba activation a strong spectator sport

The threat of bad weather perhaps kept a few people away at last week’s free Zumba session in the Central Courtyard. While the participator numbers were down, the spectators around the courtyard were high and the Campus Life team are hoping for more people to jump on board at the next campus activation event on Monday 2 May. Stay tuned for more details in the 26 April edition of This Week.
