Top of their game: three new Distinguished Professors

Congratulations to our three new Distinguished Professors, recently awarded the prestigious title by the Distinguished Professor Committee: David McAlpine, Wendy Rogers and Jon Lawrence (pictured above).

The title of Distinguished Professor is awarded to eminent Macquarie University Professors of exceptional distinction who have made an outstanding contribution to their field and to Macquarie University. The title recognises world-class individuals with stellar records of academic achievement, including an international reputation for exceptional research and scholarship, outstanding learning and teaching achievements and professional peer recognition at national and international level.

Our newest Distinguished Professors

  • Jon Lawrence – Australian Astronomical Optics, Faculty of Science and Engineering
  • David McAlpine – Department of Linguistics, Faculty of Medicine, Health and Human Sciences
  • Wendy Rogers – Department of Philosophy, Faculty of Arts
Congratulations also to the following three current Distinguished Professors, who have been awarded the title for an additional term:
  • Naguib Kanawati – Department of History and Archaeology, Faculty of Arts
  • Ron Rapee – Department of Psychology, Faculty of Medicine, Health and Human Sciences
  • David Throsby – Department of Economics, Macquarie Business School

Our new and renewed Distinguished Professors will be congratulated in-person at a special event to be held later this year.

The title of Distinguished Professor is awarded for six years and may be awarded for consecutive periods. Appointments of the Distinguished Professor title are made following a rigorous selection process involving nominations from Executive Deans and assessment by the Distinguished Professor Committee, convened by the Vice-Chancellor.
