Additional protection for staff coming to Office 365

Over the last six months the Australian higher education and healthcare sectors have become increasingly targeted by cyber criminals. And because Office 365 has become the dominant productivity suite, cybercriminals are paying particular attention to this platform as an avenue of attack.

To combat the rise in attacks on Office 365,  IT is implementing additional security measures to protect the University from phishing emails and malicious attachments.

What does this mean for me?

From Thursday 25 November, links sent in emails between Macquarie accounts and presented in Office 365 applications will be protected by Microsoft Safe Links. Links will appear to come from a Microsoft URL and will be automatically checked for malicious content before directing the user to the original link location. This is similar to the way that Mimecast currently checks links received by external senders.
