End-of-year close-down period and concessional days

Human Resources Director Nick Crowley advises staff about this year’s close-down period.

Each year, the University closes for the end of year holiday period.  The close-down period this year will occur from COB Friday 24 December 2021 until the University re-opens on Tuesday 4 January 2022.

In addition to gazetted public holidays, the University provides employees with three additional concessional days off.  A table of the public holidays and concessional days for this year is provided below:

Friday 24 December 2021 Normal working day – University closes at 5pm
Monday 27 December 2021 Public holiday (Christmas Day)
Tuesday 28 December 2021 Public holiday (Boxing Day)
Wednesday 29 December 2021 University concessional day
Thursday 30 December 2021 University concessional day
Friday 31 December 2021 University concessional day
Monday 3 January 2022 Public holiday (New Year’s Day)
Tuesday 4 January 2022 University re-opens – normal working day

Staff wishing to take annual leave or other leave before or after the close-down period should discuss their plans with their manager.

If a staff member is required, for operational reasons, to work over the close-down period they should discuss alternative arrangements, which might include alternative days or payment for work, with their manager.

Questions about the close-down period should be directed to your Human Resources contact.
