Celebrating our newest Indigenous graduates

On 26 May, Walanga Muru hosted a Graduation Celebration for the 44 Indigenous Macquarie students – 29 undergraduate and 15 postgraduate – who completed their degrees in 2020.

One hundred and forty guests attended the in-person event, with some graduates and guests attending online. Dr Leanne Holt, Pro Vice-Chancellor, Indigenous Strategy and Professor Mariella Herberstein, Interim Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) were among the distinguished guests that spoke of the University’s collective pride in the students’ success, while the student address was delivered by Katelyn Mills, a graduate of Bachelor of Education (Secondary) with a Bachelor of Science.

DVCE’s alumni team restarted its popular ‘Beer with the Boss’ in-person event program last month, with Macquarie’s young alumni gathering in the city to connect with – and learn from – more senior Macquarie alumni.

The series is part of a suite of engagement programs under the banner of ‘Powered by: Connections’, offering new graduates support and knowledge to progress in the workforce and to promote their employability.

Feedback was overwhelmingly positive: “It was useful to gain industry insights and learn about the different career paths,” noted one participant.
