“It makes you feel safe” – staff on being out in an inclusive workplace

Macquarie is committed to an inclusive campus where all people can work and learn, free of harassment or discrimination.  To mark Lesbian Visibility Day 26 April, we spoke to six staff who are proudly out at work, knowing they are free to be themselves at Macquarie.

“It makes a big difference when you’re walking on Wally’s Walk and you see a person passing you wearing a lanyard which says they are supportive of the LGBTQ diverse community at Macquarie…. It makes you feel proud and it makes you feel safe.”
Payel Ray
Department Administrator, School of Social Sciences

“For a long time, I didn’t understand the importance of being a role model in the workplace. Being able to show up in the workplace as who I am – that means something to somebody else, as much as it means to me.”
Sophie Curtis
Manager Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging, Campus Life

You can be part of a more inclusive Macquarie by joining the Ally Network or taking the time to learn about how to support our LGBTIQ+ staff and students – a range of resources are available on the Ally Network sharepoint.
