The Child Language Lab: Home Conversations Project

Help us find out how home conversations contribute to your child’s language development.

Your family is invited to participate in a study to help us learn more about how home conversations contribute to children’s language development (Macquarie University Ethics Approval 52020662715782)

WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?
We are currently recruiting 4 and 5-year-olds who are Mandarin-English bilinguals (with caregivers’ first language/mother tongue as Mandarin).

WHERE TO PARTICIPATE?
Studies will take place in your own home.

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO DO?
– You will be asked to use your own device (e.g., smartphone, tablet, or video camera) to record video with audio of conversations
– These conversations will be between your child and different caregivers and siblings, and then share these with researchers via a secure link
– Your child’s English will be tested online by our researchers
– Both will be done twice (once at entry to study and once 6 months later)

WHY PARTICIPATE?
Our research aims to support parents, caregivers, educators and health professionals in providing an evidence base for supporting children’s language development.
