Professional Learning and Capability Enhancement (PLaCE) Framework – have your say!

The Professional Learning and Capability Enhancement (PLaCE): A Framework for Learning and Teaching Staff Development sets out the capabilities for professional practice of teaching and teaching support for staff at Macquarie.

The PLaCE framework is structured around five levels of competence (Foundational, Proficient, Accomplished, Highly Accomplished or Expert) and five domains of educational practice and development:

  • Learning and Teaching Scholarship in Higher Education
  • Student Learning and Support
  • Curriculum and Assessment
  • Reflection and Feedback on Practice
  • Developing Self and Others

Within the domains and sub-domains, there are numbered capabilities, including those identified as core level capabilities. Each level builds on the previous one so there is a cumulative benefit in capability development.

Professor Dominique Parrish, PVC (Learning and Teaching), says it’s exciting to see the extensive work of dedicated Macquarie staff come to fruition in this final draft of the PLaCE Framework.

“I am really encouraged by the efforts of staff and confident in the approach that was adopted to develop the Framework,” she says.

“I look forward to the many tangible outcomes that will be underpinned by this Framework and the impact these outcomes will have on students’ success and experience of learning and teaching at Macquarie.”

The Framework has been finalised considering extensive feedback received from units and faculties across the university community in late 2019.

A draft copy of the PLaCE Framework is available to be reviewed.

Dr Agnes Bosanquet, the new Director, Learning and Teaching Staff Development is excited to be working on PLaCE.

“The framework is a positive first step towards a capability-driven approach to professional learning for teachers and teaching support staff across Macquarie,” she says.

“We are looking forward to progressing this work through a range of opportunities and will be calling on Macquarie staff for their support and participation.”

We are now seeking your feedback on the final draft of the Framework and encourage staff to provide feedback on the PLaCE Framework Feedback Form. The Consultation period for feedback on the Framework will close on Thursday 21 May 2020.

Any further enquiries regarding the PLaCE Framework can be directed to Dr Agnes Bosanquet, agnes.bosanquet@mq.edu.au
