Macquarie University Hospital to support COVID-19 response

Macquarie University Hospital (MUH) is participating in a national network to provide extra support to the public health system, should there be a surge in COVID-19 cases.

As part of this partnership, private hospitals have been offered a guarantee of viability by the Commonwealth and State Governments so that the sector can survive during this challenging period and resume their services post-COVID.

This is very positive news for MUH, as there has been a significant reduction of surgical and medical work in private hospitals due to the impact of COVID-19.

MQ Health is playing its part in this historic partnership with the public system in a variety of ways, including offering hospital and University resources in the form of ICU beds, skilled workforce fully trained for an emergency; some urgent public surgery from Western Sydney Local Health District has already taken place.

In addition, the University has pledged to provide accommodation for health professionals as the situation demands.

Specific COVID-19 medical training is currently underway in the hospital and we are continuing to provide a clinical workforce to a local COVID-19 clinic.
