Many hands (make light work): faculties work together to produce urgently needed sanitiser

Last week, the Vice-Chancellor put out an urgent call to see if anyone in the University community had supplies of the key chemical ingredients required to manufacture hand sanitiser for the Macquarie University Hospital and Clinic, in anticipation of increased needs and potential lack of supply.

In a lightning fast time, and in an encouraging show of cross-faculty collaboration, the Faculty of Science and Engineering and the Faculty of Medicine, Health and Human Sciences rallied to supply and deliver to the Hospital’s door all the chemicals and consumables for pharmacists to start manufacturing their own hand sanitiser onsite.

“In one day we had the chemicals supplied and enough empty bottles collected by the hospital staff to allow us to start on the weekend with our trial stock, says Jane Stidworthy, Director of Pharmacy at the Hospital.

“It is heartening to see this support and be part of such a wonderful organisation.”

  1. Call from Madang, Papua New Guinea. Could we know the nature of these chemicals as we are out of stock for hand sanitizers

    1. We are so lucky in an industry that is so well infrastructured. Look forward to many more stories like this.
