Earlier in February, engagement in the development of a new University Operating Plan 2020-2024 was launched.

On Tuesday 11 February the Vice-Chancellor Professor S Bruce Dowton held a briefing of Executive Members and Senior Leaders, which was immediately followed by the launch of a digital engagement platform for all staff.

The Vice-Chancellor continued to lead a discussion on the need for Macquarie to adapt to our shifting operating environment.  This comes at a time in which we face a range of external pressures including increasing competition and the impacts of recent events in Australia and across the world.

Professor Dowton shared with the Leadership group feedback from the University community in late 2019 and early 2020, an increased interest and desire for a more focussed plan at the University level to allow members of the University community to align their activities and priorities with shared aspirations and commitments for coming years.

Share your ideas on our digital engagement platform

At the briefing, the Vice-Chancellor announced the launch of our digital engagement platform. All staff can contribute ideas on how we can best address these five focus areas:

Across the digital engagement platform and key areas proposed we have seen a range of ideas and comments already.  In the first three days more than 600 members of the University community registered on the platform providing ideas and suggestions around understanding and meeting students’ needs and empowering them,  staff development and the deployment of new digital technologies in supporting operating efficiency, as well as our research success.

The Vice-Chancellor has set out his commitment to engage with the Macquarie University community and will continue this with a series of interactive staff and student workshops where he will be seeking feedback on operating plan initiatives.

“Our people are our most important asset and it is vital that we draw on the insights and knowledge from colleagues across the University to inform our operating plan”, said Professor Dowton.

“I look forward to meeting and speaking with staff and students, and I am delighted to see the early participation on our digital engagement platform”, he said.
