Currently crowdfunding: Support young Indigenous scientists and help get Julianna to Antarctica

Macquarie’s Ignite crowdfunding site supports the vision of our staff, students and alumni by giving them a platform to raise funds. Two campaigns are currently seeking support.

Help Indigenous student leaders shine

This project is supporting indigenous students from rural areas to attend the ConocoPhillips Science Experience at Macquarie University in January 2020. The Faculty of Science and Engineering’s National Indigenous Science Education Program (NISEP) – which won the Eureka Prize for STEM Inclusion earlier this year – empowers Indigenous secondary students by placing them in science leadership positions, giving them the confidence, motivation and skills to complete school and pursue pathways to employment and/or higher education.

Julianna’s journey to Antarctica

Julianna Kadar is a PhD student at Macquarie, whose research is focused on the Port Jackson shark. Julianna was recently accepted into the prestigious Homeward Bound Leadership Program – a ground-breaking leadership, strategic, science and outreach program for women, with the goal of influencing policy and decision making as it shapes our planet. Participants are required to cover most of the US$29,000 cost of the year-long program.

Read about Macquarie-AAO astronomers Tayyaba Zafar and Katrina Sealey, who participated in Homeward Bound in 2018.
