Leadership update: new University Librarian announced

Professor Kevin Jameson, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) updates staff on the appointment of a new University Librarian.

I am delighted to announce that after an extensive search and recruitment process, Dr Belinda Tiffen has accepted the position of University Librarian and will commence at Macquarie University in January 2020.

Belinda is currently the Director of Library Resources at the University of Technology Sydney, where she leads the development of the University’s library collections and digital infrastructure. She also provides leadership in Scholarly Communications for the Library, providing copyright, publishing, repository and research data management services.

While working at UTS Library she has led a number of major projects including, most recently, the implementation of a new library management system and introduction of platforms to support open access journal and book publishing, as well as the development and rollout of the new Artist in Residence program. Prior to joining UTS, Dr Tiffen worked at the National Library of Australia and the University of Western Australia, and has published and presented on open scholarship, technology in libraries and building successful workplace cultures.

I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Fiona Burton and Susan Vickery, who have between them so capably led the Library and Art Gallery (and previously Records) teams over the past 12 months. Their professionalism, leadership and commitment to both the Library and the University in this role have been truly outstanding.

I’m sure you will join me in welcoming Belinda to Macquarie both now, and as she settles into her role in early January.
