UniMoves Challenge winners announced and more chances to win

Macquarie UniMoves Challenge winners

Our first UniMoves challenge ‘Move it Macquarie’ ran for six weeks to encourage staff and students to earn as many MOVES as possible by moving as much as possible! Almost 200 staff and students participated with almost 3 million MOVEs or 30 million steps accumulated.

Congratulations to the winners, who were presented with their prizes by Head of Campus Life, Pete Boyle. The winners received a Fitbit, Rebel Sport voucher and MQ Backpack.

Staff

1st place: Wessels Van Heerden – 192,000 MOVEs
Wessels is a Payroll Advisor in the Human Resources team at Macquarie and finds his 30 minutes a day through running, walking and weights. His one piece of advice to encourage our University community to become more active is to ‘build activity into your routine and make it a priority’. Wessels sets a great example of how exercise doesn’t need to be intense or vigorous. He earned the majority of his MOVEs just through walking, one day alone he walked for almost 10km. Well done Wessels!

2nd place: Cara Everson – 172,000 MOVEs

Students

1st place: Francisco Gutierrez – 133,000 MOVEs
Francisco is an International student from Mexico who is in his last semester studying a Master of Commerce and is also on the Student Representative Committee as the postgraduate representative of Macquarie Business School. He achieves his 30 minutes of activity a day by walking from home to Uni and participating in group fitness classes (his favourite is Body Pump) and small group training sessions at the Sport and Aquatic Centre. He also has a passion for weightlifting and plays in the University Social Soccer competition on Tuesdays.

2nd place: Khang Nguyen – 93,000 MOVEs
