Final Workplace Gender Equity Strategy released

Following consultation with the Macquarie community, the final version of the University’s Workplace Gender Equity Strategy is now available.

Towards Gender Equity 2.0 builds on the initial two-years of the Strategy and sets out an action plan through to 2021.

“I have been impressed by the strong engagement across the University. In many ways, the development and implementation of this strategy represents the best of Macquarie University. Our goal ultimately is to emerge with our heads held high in this sector and beyond by tackling long-term, systemic inequities that exist in relation to gender within organisations”.

– Vice-Chancellor and President, Professor S Bruce Dowton

It outlines the progress the University has made to date, as well as the future actions and success measures that will be used to address gender inequality and build an inclusive culture at Macquarie.

target-graphicTargets in key areas aim to improve the gender balance across our workforce and in recruitment, promotion and leadership; and help us to close the gender pay gap. Our performance against these targets (see example, right) will be published in September each year on the Towards Gender Equity webpage, where you will also find progress reports for each of the six commitments in the Strategy.

Staff who are interested in Macquarie’s progress on Gender Equity can also view the University’s 2018-19 report to the Workplace Gender Equality Agency (WGEA), which was recently submitted.

Having made significant progress on Gender Equity since the launch of our initial strategy in 2017, the University is also currently developing a submission for the 2019-20 WGEA Employer of Choice for Gender Equality citation, which recognises leading practice and progress towards gender equity.

The application covers seven focus areas: leadership, strategy and accountability; developing a gender balanced workforce; gender pay equity; support for caring; mainstreaming flexible work; preventing gender-based bullying, harassment and discrimination; and driving change beyond our workplace.
