Staff parking after 1 October

Student parking and Sport and Aquatic Centre parking at Macquarie University will switch to the new app-based system that offers pay-as-you-go (and for students, vPermits) from 1 October 2018.

Very little is changing for staff parking until next year. To understand what is happening for staff, please see updated information on our website at mq.edu.au/parking and note some FAQs below:

Are staff still using permits?

Yes. Until the end of April 2019, staff parking will be the same as it is today. The display-on-windscreen permit is required and can be purchased as per below:

  1. Fill in the application form (also available from the Cashier’s Office)
  2. Take to the Cashier’s Office (Level 0, 16 Wally’s Walk)
My permit expired 31 August. What do I do?

All parking permits that expired on 31 August have been automatically updated in our system as now expiring on 30 September. Staff wishing to purchase a new permit can refer to the new pricing and permits available. See below and at mq.edu.au/parking.

What is the new pricing from 1 October?

Permanent and fixed-term staff can obtain parking permits by salary sacrifice (excludes monthly permits). Permit options for staff are as follows:

  • 2018 seven-month permit (October 2018 to end April 2019): $278.00
  • 2019 four-month permit (January 2019 to end April 2019): $160.00
  • 2018/2019 monthly permit (ends April 2019): $40.00
  • 2018 seven-month reserved permit (October 2018 to end April 2019): $950.00
What about refunds and upgrades?
  • Refunds can be applied to unused portions of four and seven-month permits. There are no refunds for monthly parking permits. See the Cashier to process any refund request.
  • There will be no upgrades/extensions of time added to existing permits. Staff can purchase their choice of permit from the list above.
Apart from pricing, what else has changed?

Purple Zones (see new parking map) will be designated staff-only carparks:

  •  East 2 and East 4
  • North 4 and North 5
  • West 7

NEW: Staff with permits can now also park in the North 3 Carpark.

Special parking is unchanged.

Chancellery and MGSM carpark permits are via the appropriate permission.

Reserved – guarantees a parking space on Level 3 East 3 and West 3 undercover.

Sport and Aquatic Centre parking

After 1 October, Sport and Aquatic Centre users can park in the Yellow (West 4 & 5, North 3) and Blue (West 6) zones and the two-hour free parking option will be removed. Staff can also park in North 3.

Any person without a parking permit will pay $1.50 per hour as per the revised Sport and Aquatic Centre parking offer. See Sport and Aquatic Centre parking on the website mq.edu.au/parking.

Can staff access casual parking by app (and the $1/hour rates)?

No. As per the current arrangement, staff without a parking permit will pay the casual visitor rate currently in place via the ticket machines. After 1 October, staff can register with CellOpark and pay via app. The rates will be the same as ticket machines: $10 for the first hour and $5/hour thereafter to a maximum day rate of $40.

What about invited guests and visitors, can faculties still issue pre-paid cards from the Cashier?

Yes. These arrangements are under review and further information will be released. Current stocks of scratchy parking vouchers will be honoured.
