It’s been a busy couple of months for Macquarie staff, with many attracting national and even international media coverage. Here are our media highlights for July and August.


August highlights:
29 August: Professor Stephen Brammer, Executive Dean, Faculty of Business and Economics was featured in The Australian in relation to the launch of the MGSM Global MBA.

29 August: Professor Anand Deva from the Department of Clinical Medicine contributed an article about regulation of the cosmetic surgery industry to The Daily Telegraph. He was also featured on ABC Four Corners, news.com.au, Brisbane Courier-Mail and ABC Radio News. Here more about Professor Deva’s work on The Lighthouse’s podcast series Leading Lights.

16 August: Dr Jana Jones from the Department of Ancient History was featured in Cosmos, National Geographic, Gizmodo, Daily Mail, Science Alert, Inverse, The Conversation, The New Daily, BBC News, SBS News, FOX News, USA Today, Live Science and Newcastle Herald regarding her research showing Egyptian mummification took place earlier than previously thought.

14 August: Dr Matthew Bulbert from the Department of Biological Sciences was featured in the Daily Telegraph regarding his talk at Sydney Science Festival about the ‘five-minute pet’. The story was syndicated in Northern District Times and Practical Parenting website. Read more on The Lighthouse.

9 August: Dr Richard McDermid from the Department of Physics and Astronomy was featured in Daily Mail regarding light pollution. Read more on The Lighthouse.

5 August: Associate Professor Sheila Degotardi was featured in the Sydney Morning Herald and Canberra Times, and interviewed on Radio National Life Matters and ABC North West Queensland Mornings regarding the amount of conversation needed for child language development. July highlights:
31 July: Louisa Gibson from the Department of Psychology was featured by Reuters, CNN and Chicago Tribune regarding the impact of drinking alcohol while breastfeeding on children’s cognitive development.

26 July: Distinguished Professor Michael Gillings from the Department of Biological Sciences provided comment to Essential Kids about the risks associated with wearing shoes inside the home.

19 July: Dr Paul Harvey from the Department of Environmental Sciences provided comment to News.com.au and Brisbane Courier-Mail regarding the banning of plastic straws.
