Reward and recognition: Macquarie staff shine

Professor Martina Möllering, Executive Dean of the Faculty of Arts
In appreciation of outstanding services to the University of Giessen, the Senate of Justus Liebig University has awarded Martina the Justus Liebig Medal.

Martina has made a decisive contribution to promoting the relationship between Justus Liebig University and Macquarie University, initially as the Head of the Department of European Languages, subsequently as the Head of the Department of International Studies, and since 2015 as Executive Dean of the Faculty of Arts, rendering outstanding services to the internationalisation of the University of Giessen.

Dr Yvonne Breyer, Faculty of Business and Economics
Yvonne, Director of Learning and Teaching for FBE, headed to Arizona to accept the Coursera 2018 award for Outstanding educator award for transformation.

Yvonne and her team have developed an Excel specialisation MOOC which is receiving rave reviews from corporate and individual learners all around the world.

Dr Andrew Care, Faculty of Science and Engineering
Andrew was recently awarded a 2018 Early Career Fellowship from the Cancer Institute New South Wales (CINSW) to fund a project that aims to eliminate some of the barriers that in some cases stop cancer patients getting the drugs they need in the most efficient way.

The new nanotechnology project, “Biological nanoparticles for the targeted delivery and light-triggered release of drugs”, has huge potential to treat a wide range of cancer tumours including those in the brain, breast, lung, skin, and gastrointestinal tract. Find out more here.

Associate Professor Vito Mollica, Macquarie Graduate School of Management
The Australian Council of Graduate Research (ACGR) Executive Committee has presented Vito with the 2018 ACGR Award for Excellence in Promoting Industry Engagement in Graduate Research. Vito accepted the award at a Presentation Ceremony in Adelaide last night (16 April).

In addition to the award, Vito received a $3000 grant and an invitation to attend and present at one of ACGR’s national meetings.

Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research) Professor Sakkie Pretorius congratulated Vito on receiving the impressive accolade.

“This is terrific recognition of your dedication to the supervision of industry-engaged HDR candidates. It is no small feat to achieve this level of success in a national context and we are very proud to have you as one of our rising stars at Macquarie University. Well done!”
