Streamlining solutions: our new Research Hub

Macquarie University has an internationally recognised research track record across the range of our academic disciplines. To continue to support research with quality and impact, Macquarie has embarked on a total research support systems renewal.

The new Macquarie University ‘Research Hub’, currently in development, will provide an integrated solution for end-to-end research lifecycle management, housing a suite of research management systems for researchers and research administrators.

The Animal Ethics Committee, Institutional Biosafety Committee and Human Research Ethics Committees ensure that all research involving animals, humans and the use of biological materials associated with research and teaching meets legislative and regulatory compliance obligations in the pursuit of research excellence. The teams supporting these committees are enhancing processes, practices and systems that facilitate the work of our researchers and committees.

The new systems are designed to streamline applications for approvals and the approval process, reducing turnaround times and data entry and increasing data reliability and accuracy.

In the later part of 2017, streamlined solutions for biosafety management and a pilot for animal ethics submissions, committee feedback and approvals will be rolled out. We are also expanding the research animal management system (RAMS) to include a wider base of researchers and research projects in this area.

In the first quarter of 2018, Macquarie will implement both the human ethics component and the online forms for export controls approvals.

The Research Hub Ethics solution will include an integrated application system where research approval histories, reports and amendments can be accessed or made online in the one place.

The increased reporting system functionality will facilitate data sharing across the University and lead to more efficient and streamlined processes for research management. The new system will better support the integration of research data management and storage systems, policies and procedures in the pursuit of research excellence.
