It is with great sadness that we inform you of the passing of Emeritus Professor Robert (Barry) Leal AM, who died on 20 August aged 82.

Professor Leal held a number of roles at Macquarie University including Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) and lecturer in European Languages and Cultures.

He received his PhD in French literature from the University of Queensland, his ThD from the Sydney College of Divinity and was published extensively on modern French literature before turning his attention to theology and biblical studies.

A respected and valued member of the community, Barry will be sadly missed by his family, friends and colleagues.
