This month, nine organisations from Macquarie Park will raise money for early literacy programs in the local district by participating in Australia’s first business-community walkathon.

The event is part of a larger initiative – the Macquarie Park Business Community Partnership – founded with social purpose organisation United Way Australia.

The first of its kind, the partnership brings leading businesses together to support local children and youth facing disadvantage in neighbourhoods surrounding Macquarie Park.

The fundraising walkathon will be held on Thursday 24 August from 12pm-3pm and is open to all employees from the nine participating organisations.

“This is a great opportunity to support a local cause, engage with your colleagues and get to know the local area,” commented Margaret Hudson, Director Corporate Engagement.

Carol Bryant, Chief Executive Officer of Macquarie University Hospital echoed this sentiment as well as her excitement for the day.

“We have really enjoyed working with our neighbourhood organisations on developing this unique initiative,” she said.

‘It will be a great day, full of fun activities, as well as some healthy competition between teams and organisations.”

The nine participating organisations include: Johnson & Johnson Medical, Fuji Xerox Australia, Macquarie University Hospital, Macquarie University, ORIX, OPTUS, Pitney Bowes, Macquarie Telecom, and Danone.
